training is hard enough as it is without trying to train for a marathon toooooo...............

well been running a lot again - mainly so I can burn off all the chocolate I'm eating. Worringly am eating less and running more and still not losing weight. so annoying.

anyway
9th April - easter monday - ran from home, round bottom of Doon Hill, behind Spott farm, down Starvation Brae, round to second ford and down to pitcox, head towards Eweford but turn up at Pleasance and down Closed Road. Bumped into Stuart at that point, he'd been running longer (and clearly a lot further) than me but seemed quite perky. Crossed over to run up to house with big red chimney and head up through field to route behind Spott farm for Stuart and round bottom of doon hill to Pinkerton for me. Thought I'd done well running so far and making it up all the hills so gave myself permission to walk up through the field and up the hill at pinkerton towards home. Legs pretty sore from long walk yesterday (in different places to running soreness - muscles that help you lift legs over fences and gates very painful)

10th April - Tuesday club night - Ran with Alison out to John Muir, through trees, over bridge and up to second farm, doing loop back to East Links Farm Park, along to Biel burn and then along burn to West Barns. In West Barns we found the faster of the lady runners so a good route for us. We then headed fastest route back to halhill. Alison was feeling ropey by the end as she had her rabies jab that day - she wasn't foaming at the mouth tho....

12th April - Thursday intervals - Did 2 mile warm up as we were heading out to umbertos after. Thought I'd try and work off some of the badness in advance.....My favourites - 400m (well 200m is my real favourite but anything 400m or less is good news). Did 12 x 400m in 3 mins. Most of mine were under 2 mins. Fastest was 1.41.

14th April - Saturday long run - Beginning to feel like I did when marathon training (or maybe worse). Legs dead and was pretty warm/close so harder to run. Got Brian to drop me off in Stenton and headed up (and I mean up) the road towards Presmennon(?). Turned left along farm path and briefly got lost in some trees before finding path again and coming out on the road that heads towards findlay's spring water and pitcox. I then ran the wrong way round the route of the second ford - actually finding it easier than the usual route though. I was running towards spott trying to figure out the best route to make the run the right distance. So ran down to closed road, up to Wester Broomhouse, over towards the Pleasance, back to little Spott, up to Spott and back down to near closed road before heading up beside house with big red chimney, to hill in field and route round Doon hill and back to Pinkerton. Guess what - walked up hill in field and hill from pinkerton - again!

15th April - twas roasting. Poor Hannah and Fay running the Paris marathon - I couldn't cope with the heat here nevermind the sweltering heat they were running in. Good on them both for completing, and from what Fay says making it round without any black eyes from the fights for the water. Anyway this was me taking it easy - to be honest had no energy to go any faster. Brian and I ran together round Pinkerton, bottom of Doon hill, behind Spott Farm and up over Doon hill to home. Good run once we got to the top of Doon hill. Bumped into Frank during our run (well after about 9 mins). He'd done his run for the day at that point though, lucky for him!

17th April - Tuesday club night. Running with Alison again - Jenny pulled in just as we were heading off so she caught us up. Swear she was perkier than me and she did 19 hilly miles at the weekend. Jeez - my training is bad enough, couldn't face doing the marathon thing just now. We headed up through trees from Halhill, up to Eweford and under A1 turning right at fork paster Bouerhouse(?) and then on up to Little Spott. Don't know what was wrong - we had the option of cutting back earlier but carried on to Little Spott. Madness. We then ran on up to Spott and round down back to Halhill. Felt hard but also felt I wasn't moving that fast. Think trainers are a bit knackered but haven't had them long. Might need to take them back.....

Well mad training continues with intervals tomorrow and Arthur's seat on Friday. Lovely. Not sure what I've got planned for the weekend except for......watching London Marathon. Wishing all my fellow club mates and mad running friends all the best for their runs on Sunday. Here's hoping it's not too hot and there is plenty of water for all!

more boasting......and not......

Well I was doing really really well keeping my diary up to date but sadly I've let it slip - focusing far too much on the running than the writing about it!!!!!

Will do a quick resume to get us back up to date before I need by next chocolate fix (Brian's opened his easter egg - chocolate tastes even better when its not yours!)

27 March - Tuesday - first club night where it was actually daylight! For some reason I tried to keep up with Clarissa so it felt pretty fast for the first 2-3 miles. We headed out through West Barns and down to East Links, turning left and running through the farm, then right and back through the trees, before heading up back road and over by the Jet station back to Halhill.

28th March - Wednesday - as I have a race at the weekend I was trying to fit in my runs during the week. Brian was away up north so thought I may as well make good use of the time. I headed out with Sheila M from Belhaven, up to Eweford, the the right fork up to the Pleasance, across the grassy path to Wester Broomhouse, down the closed road and along to Spott roundabout and back via Halhill to Belhaven. Another run in the daylight!!!

29th March - Thursday - pacing session for all of us doing the half marathon on sunday. No watches allowed! Running 4x400m, 2x800m and 1x1600m. My pace was to be 9 minute miles, so 2.15 for the 400m and 4.30 for the 800m. Its very hard to judge when the people in front of you cant get it right.....and when Ian R pulls funny faces at you to make you think you are going too slow. Anyway did 2.07, 2.11, 2.11, 2.17, 4.35, 4.29, 8.40. So a bit out at the end then

1st April - Sunday - Edinburgh Forthside Half Marathon (although seemingly lots of comments on the website about whether it really was a half marathon. I'm not arguing - felt a long way to me! what is it with runners - bad run, bad time = grumpy person. good run, good time = can't have been the right distance. Hmmmmm - never happy). Anyway course doesn't really inspire me but the whole thing was a lot better organised than last year. Splits as follows (with a bit of guess work)
1 - 8.52 (missed the marker but approx)
2 - 8.52 (17.44)
3 - 8,38 (26.23)
4 - 9.13 (35.37 - hill)
5 - 9.18 (44.55 - more hill)
6 - 9.16 (54.11 - took energy gel)
7 - 8.34 (1.02.46)
8 - 9.39 (1.12.25)
9 - 9.34 (1.21.59)
10 - 9.38 (1.31.38 - getting slower and slower until....)
11 - 7.44 (1.39.23 - clearly the markers aren't uite right)
12 - 9.25 (1.48.49)
13.1 - 10.02 (1.58.51)

So another pb for me - my splits are a bit all over the place - enough for me to think mile markers where in wrong place but still a half marathon for me. Better be - otherwise it would take me a long time to beat that one......3 races this year and 3 pbs. Amazing......don't think I'll manage another in Dunbar though. (well given that I'm writing this after Dunbar I have got a bit of an idea if I did or not but must keep the suspense building)

Loads of the club did well in run on Sunday - pbs for Me, Steve Pattison, Stuart, Ian S, Jenny, Lucy etc etc etc

3rd April - Tuesday - meeting at club re race on Saturday so only a shortish run. Good though given legs are tired after Sunday. Ran from Halhill along to Spott roundabout, up towards Spott, along the closed road to Wester Broomhouse, along grassy track to Pleasance, down to Eweford and back to Halhill via the trees. Nice evening. Like this running in the daylight - loads better.

5th April - Thursday - it was the 5km tonight but due to race on Saturday I jogged round slowly - legs felt pretty sluggish which doesn't bode well for a race on Saturday. Eeek. Route was loads nicer in daylight and at nice pace. Nevermind though......

7th April - Saturday - Dunbar 10km. Official time 55.45 - think that could be my worst 10km time in about a year and a half. Ooops. Haven't typed the splits in - watch is upstairs and I'm far too lazy to go and get it - will input splits later.

8th April - Sunday - chocolate allowed!!!! Thank goodness. No running today but Brian and I decided to walk from Whiteadder Reservoir to home - it was well windy so sure I burnt off a few calories, that I can readily replace by eating my way through chocolate eggs. It took us 4 hours.....good job we took a picnic with us.
