post holiday blues
Ive been away on holiday so at least I have an excuse
for my lack of diary entries; however it now means I
have a huge number of runs to write about.
I went out and ate some sweets that Tuesday 04/07/06
Im sure it helped fuel me round the run later on. We
ran from Halhill out through the trees and round the
Eweford cottages, down to West Barnes, along to East
Links Farm Park and back to Halhill via the hospital.
I felt reasonably well considering the trek Sheila and
I had ran the day before.
On holiday I tried to run, but really the motivation
wasnt high. In Harrogate I ran for over 5 miles,
running round 3 different parks twice each. Flat as
pancakes but warm and muggy. Did a bit of fartleking
for the last 5 minutes or so trying to persuade
myself that I had put some effort in!
In the Lake District I had to try to find somewhere
flat-ish to run. We were staying north of
Bassenthwaite Lake so ran on a wee road near there
it was only mildly undulating. The weather was
cooler, windy and a bit damp and only managed to keep
going for about 4.5 miles here. Read a book about the
Bob Graham round and thought Ian R could make that his
next challenge all this hill training he is doing
should be good practice!
Then I did another run around Gretna motivation at
an all time low (plus Id run out of inhaler whilst
still in Harrogate, so Im convinced this wasnt
making the running any easier!). Did about 5 miles
but still struggled. Nice hotel and no we didnt get
married
.
Arrived home this Wed and headed out for Sheila Ks
leaving tea. Had a good night (apart from knocking my
full glass of wine all over the table), but am so
jealous of Sheila leaving her job to go and sail round
Britain and then to spend time with her partner
crewing on boats. How fantastic. Really must figure
out something cool to do with my life
On Thursday I eased myself back into interval training
lucky me. Did 4x400m warm up, followed by 20x200m
in what started out as being 1min30secs but I think
Ian took pity and gave us a bit more rest. This was
then followed by another relay this time 2x400m.
Trying to run for a full 400m without breathing was a
bit of a challenge lets just say I was glad when we
had finished.
Friday morning Sheila and I headed out for another
long one at 8:30am. We ran up the back road, round
Winterfield golf course, through John Muir to the
North Berwick road, up to Lawhead as per the festive
1/2, along to Smeaton garden centre, down to East
Linton, along the Tyne back to the North Berwick Road
and back through John Muir to Belhaven. It was warm
but a nice breeze to help us on the way. The mini
Mars bar halfway really helped though.
And finally on Saturday, in a fit of madness
considering how stiff Id been on Friday pm after our
long run, Sheila, Val and I ran again. This time a
shorter run along the beach at Belhaven and through
the park. Phew at last I am back to present.
Unfortunately I have work tomorrow and am now feeling
that terrible dread of having to return to work. Oh
well, will just need to book in some more holidays
..
